41st Annual Africa Conference on Educational Assessment Kicks Off in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 25, 2025 (FMC) – The 41st Annual Conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) officially commenced today in Addis Ababa, bringing together education experts, policymakers, and practitioners from across the continent.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh, among the esteemed dignitaries, officially opened the conference, emphasizing the transformative role of education in Africa’s development. “We stand together for a common purpose: to make education the driving force behind Africa’s transformation and upliftment,” he said.

The conference, hosted at the Skylight Hotel by the Ethiopian Educational Assessment and Examinations Service (EAES), will run through August 29, 2025. It provides a platform for sharing research, experiences, and best practices in educational assessment, with the goal of improving learning outcomes and informing policy across Africa.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen highlighted that educational assessment is more than a measure of learning—it is a guiding tool that informs decision-making and shapes future strategies. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to building an education and assessment system that is just, purposeful, and capable of nurturing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Themed “Transforming Educational Assessment: Towards Quality Learning and Informed Decision Making,” this year’s conference features 124 research papers and discussions aimed at establishing a Common Continental Assessment Framework (CAFA) to harmonize educational evaluation across African countries.

The AEAA conference in Addis Ababa underscores Ethiopia’s leadership role in advancing educational quality and fostering continental collaboration in Africa’s education sector.
