Ethiopia’s growth spurs deeper diplomatic and economic engagement with Italy – Ambassador

Addis Ababa, October 31, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s economic growth has strengthened its diplomatic and economic relations with Italy, paving the way for deeper cooperation across multiple sectors, Ethiopian Ambassador to Italy Demitu Hambisa said.

Speaking to Fana Media Corporation, Ambassador Demitu highlighted that Ethiopia’s bilateral and multilateral relations with Italy have reached a new level, reflecting the country’s rising regional and global influence.

She pointed to the return of Ethiopia’s first solar-powered plane from Italy as a key achievement, facilitated through the diplomatic efforts of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD).

The ambassador also underscored her role in inviting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Ethiopia on multiple occasions, further boosting diplomatic engagement and fostering stronger economic ties between the two countries.

Relations have expanded across political, economic, and social spheres, creating opportunities for numerous Italian companies to operate in Ethiopia. Ambassador Demitu identified potential areas for collaboration, including infrastructure development, industrial and vehicle production, textile and leather manufacturing, as well as coffee and other agricultural products.

“Ethiopia’s growing prestige and diplomatic reach, coupled with our abundant natural and human resources, provide significant opportunities for foreign investors,” she said, emphasizing the country’s potential as a prime destination for strategic partnerships.
