PM Abiy Ahmed Says Medemer Brings Government, Community, and Nature Together for Future Growth

Addis Ababa, January 18, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the Medemer philosophy brings together government institutions, the private sector, the public, nature, and national assets to build a better future, citing the newly inaugurated Denbi Eco Lodge as a practical demonstration of this approach.

In a message shared on his social media platforms following the inauguration of Denbi Eco Lodge under the Dine for Generations initiative in the South West Ethiopia People’s Regional State, the Prime Minister said the project reflects sustainability and shared ownership through the use of locally sourced materials and local capacity.

He noted that Medemer emphasizes leveraging the strengths of today while preserving national assets for the benefit of future generations, adding that Ethiopia’s cultural, natural, and historical resources provide a strong foundation for long-term development.

The Prime Minister said the Dine for Generations initiative aims to unlock the country’s tourism potential by developing sustainable destinations that integrate natural beauty, heritage, and community participation.

Denbi Eco Lodge is the first project inaugurated under the initiative, which builds on earlier national tourism development programs and seeks to expand world-class, sustainable tourism projects to new regions across the country.
