Ethiopia Holds National Consultation on Third Voluntary National Review (VNR) 2025
Addis Ababa, June 9, 2025 (FMC) — The Ministry of Planning and Development of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia convened a high-level national consultation forum today in Addis Ababa to deliberate on the draft of Ethiopia’s Third Voluntary National Review (VNR) 2025 report.
The forum was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, Regional Presidents, Mayors of the two City Administrations, Chairpersons and Members of the Standing Committees of the House of Peoples’ Representatives, Federal Ministers, and various national stakeholders.
In his opening address, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen emphasized Ethiopia’s continued efforts to align its national development agenda with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He underscored the country’s commitment to effective implementation of the global goals.
Minister of Planning and Development, Fitsum Assefa (PhD), noted that the preparation of the draft report was a collaborative effort involving a wide range of institutions and stakeholders.
She added that the draft underwent a review by an independent consultant to ensure objectivity and quality.
Ms. Fitsum also highlighted that with just five years remaining to achieve the 2030 Agenda, Ethiopia is actively sharing its experiences in SDG implementation with the international community.
The forum featured a detailed presentation of the draft VNR 2025 report, followed by a robust discussion and a question-and-answer session that allowed participants to offer constructive feedback.
The consultation yielded valuable insights and reflections, reinforcing Ethiopia’s commitment to transparent and inclusive reporting on its progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
