Ethiopian Intelligence Professionals Attain Global Certification in Aviation Security Quality, Risk Management
Addis Ababa, July 2, 2025 (FMC) — Forty professionals from Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) have been awarded international certifications in Aviation Security Quality Control and Risk Management, following a comprehensive training program jointly conducted with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In a press release issued to Fana Media Corporation, NISS—the institution overseeing Ethiopia’s aviation security framework—announced that the certification marks a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to enhance national aviation safety standards.
The training, held in collaboration with ICAO, provided participants with advanced expertise in quality control procedures and risk management protocols critical to aviation security.
The certification program was conducted for the first time in Ethiopia from June 16 to July 1, 2025, and facilitated by ICAO experts.
The initiative followed ICAO’s recent audit of Ethiopia’s aviation security system—its first in twelve years—which found no security deficiencies, underscoring the country’s strong compliance with international aviation security norms.
According to the NISS statement, the ICAO instructors confirmed that the newly certified professionals are now qualified to carry out aviation security quality control activities in any country where Ethiopian Airlines operates. This certification, they noted, reflects the high standards achieved during the training.
The release further highlighted that the skills and knowledge acquired through this program will enable NISS to execute its national mandate with greater precision and effectiveness.
More broadly, the achievement reflects Ethiopia’s strategic emphasis on strengthening its aviation security sector as a national priority.
As a member state of ICAO, Ethiopia bears the responsibility of ensuring robust quality control and preparedness in aviation security. NISS underscored that this training aligns with ICAO’s global standards, contributing to the overall safety of the international aviation system.
Moreover, the advanced competencies gained through this certification are expected to bolster Ethiopia’s ambition to establish a strong global presence in aviation security—enhancing the institutional vision of NISS, supporting the competitiveness of Ethiopian Airlines, and securing strategic national interests.
