Ethiopian Research Universities Forum Launched to Elevate National and Global Impact

Addis Ababa, July 2025 (FMC) — The Ethiopian Research Universities Forum (ERUF) has been formally launched at the University of Gondar, marking a significant milestone in the country’s higher education landscape.

The newly established forum is set to serve as a collaborative platform for Ethiopia’s leading research universities, enabling them to jointly advance national development priorities, foster innovation, and enhance international competitiveness.

Member institutions are expected to focus intensively on cutting-edge research, the expansion of postgraduate education, faculty development, and the creation of innovative academic frameworks.

Speaking to Fana Digital, Dr. Asrat Atsede-Woyn, President of the University of Gondar, emphasized that the establishment of the forum represents a transformative moment for Ethiopia’s higher education sector.

“This initiative marks a historic opportunity for our universities to strengthen their global influence and academic excellence,” Dr. Asrat noted.

He further highlighted that ERUF will facilitate the sharing of research laboratories and digital platforms among member institutions, while also promoting the exchange of best practices in knowledge transfer and community engagement.
