UNFSS+4 delegates visit poultry and avocado value chains in Mojo

Addis Ababa, July 27, 2025 (FMC) – International delegates attending the 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit +4 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4) toured key agricultural development sites in Mojo town, located in Ethiopia’s Oromia region.

The visiting guests explored the Mojo Poultry Farm and Chicken Processing Center, as well as avocado value chain initiatives in the area. The visit was part of a broader field tour showcasing Ethiopia’s national efforts to enhance food security and nutrition.

Ethiopia has registered significant progress in strengthening food sovereignty through initiatives such as irrigated summer wheat production, the Bounty of the Basket (YeLemat Tirufat) campaign, and the Green Legacy reforestation program. According to officials, both poultry and avocado products from the Mojo facilities are now being distributed for domestic consumption and exported to international markets.

The visit took place on the sidelines of the opening day of the UNFSS+4 Summit in Addis Ababa—designated as “Action Day.” The day brought together heads of state and government, ministers, UN officials, and stakeholders from across the globe to highlight national progress on food systems transformation and to deepen collective action in achieving food security, nutrition, and sustainable development goals.

The summit, co-convened by Ethiopia, the United Nations, the African Union, and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, serves as a mid-point stocktaking moment following the first Food Systems Summit held in 2021. Ethiopia’s hosting of the summit reflects its growing role as a regional and global voice in sustainable food systems transformation.
