INSA expands cyber talent drive to strengthen Ethiopia’s digital sovereignty
Addis Ababa, August 2, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Information Network Security Agency (INSA) is ramping up efforts to build homegrown technological capacity, launching a renewed push to strengthen the country’s cyber sovereignty.
In partnership with Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (ASTU), INSA has officially launched the fourth edition of its annual Cyber Talent Summer Camp — a flagship initiative aimed at nurturing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
This year, 784 participants were selected from more than 8,000 applicants based on their academic achievements, creativity, and demonstrated potential in the field. The training program is being held across three venues: ASTU, INSA headquarters in Addis Ababa, and Bahir Dar University.
Speaking at the launch, INSA Director General Tigest Hamid underlined the importance of building a digitally capable “cyber army” equipped with local innovations. “We are focusing on empowering young people and building human capacity to defend the nation’s digital infrastructure,” she said.
Tigest noted that a robust cybersecurity workforce is essential not only for national defense in cyberspace but also for realizing the Digital Ethiopia 2025 vision by expanding online services and deterring cyber threats. She added that INSA remains committed to developing globally competitive talent and advancing independent technology solutions.
ASTU Vice President Dr. Kemal Ibrahim expressed the university’s continued commitment to supporting INSA’s mission, noting that ASTU is prioritizing cybersecurity, data science, and applied research. He said the university stands ready to allocate resources and deepen collaboration in these strategic areas.
