PM Abiy Ahmed Highlights Practical Foundations of Medemer State in Latest Book

Addis Ababa, August 20, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said that his latest book, Medemer State, is grounded in practical experience and results, making it a pivotal reference for understanding governance and national development in Ethiopia.

In an exclusive interview with Fana Media Corporation, the Prime Minister explained that the Medemer philosophy has been a guiding principle in his personal and professional life for years, producing tangible outcomes in the institutions where he has worked.

“The idea of Medemer can be applied at the individual, group, or institutional level,” he said, highlighting its flexibility and practical application.

He emphasized that the latest volume, Medemer State, builds upon the three previous books — Medemer, Medemer Journey, and Medemer Generation — and is designed to translate the Medemer concept into a governmental and institutional framework.

Abiy noted that the earlier volumes laid the philosophical and generational foundations, while Medemer State details how these ideas are operationalized within the structures of government.

“The uniqueness of this book lies in its detailed documentation of government philosophy, strategy, and implementation. To our knowledge, there is no precedent in Ethiopia or Africa where a government’s ideas, strategy, and intended results are laid out in such a comprehensive form,” PM Abiy said.

The Prime Minister explained that the book was developed over a long period through discussions, criticisms, trainings, and careful observation of practical experiences, ensuring that the ideas are both refined and implementable.

He stressed that this iterative approach allowed the concept to evolve and mature, eventually becoming a structured framework capable of guiding policy, governance, and national development.

PM Abiy described the book as more than a theoretical guide; it is a living document reflecting lessons learned in Ethiopian institutions and society.

According to him, it examines historical challenges, explores current opportunities, and provides practical insights for both national governance and the development of human capital.

He underscored that Medemer State is intended to serve as a reference for future policymakers and generations, documenting how a government guided by ideas rather than emotions or personal interests can shape the nation’s trajectory.

“This book represents a contribution to Ethiopia’s history, outlining both the vision and the practical measures needed to achieve sustainable progress,” PM Abiy said.
