Ethiopia to Host 41st Annual Conference of Association for Educational Assessment in Africa
Addis Ababa, August 21, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia will host the 41st Annual Conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) from August 25–29, bringing together experts and policymakers from across the continent to strengthen cooperation in educational evaluation.
The conference, organized by the Ethiopian Educational Assessment and Examinations Service (EAES), will be held under the theme “Transforming Educational Assessment: Towards Quality Learning and Informed Decision Making.” More than 500 delegates from over 30 countries are expected to attend, with 124 research papers selected for presentation.
Briefing journalists today, EAES Director-General Eshetu Kebede said Ethiopia has long-standing experience in educational assessment and examinations dating back to 1946. He noted that the country has been working closely with AEAA to ensure the successful hosting of the gathering, which he described as a vital opportunity to build a stronger, more collaborative educational evaluation system across Africa.
The meeting will serve as a platform for exchanging ideas, technologies, and best practices in assessment. Delegates will also deliberate and approve the Common Continental Assessment Framework, a landmark initiative aimed at fostering regional integration and ensuring equitable and holistic approaches to education.
Eshetu stressed that the conference marks a critical step toward raising educational standards in Africa, underscoring the central role of assessment in achieving quality education for all. Ethiopia, he added, will use the occasion to showcase its advancements in educational assessment and share its experience with other African nations.
An exhibition highlighting Ethiopia’s broader development initiatives across multiple sectors will also be staged alongside the conference.
