PM Office Launches Major Hashtags to Position Ethiopia in Trillion-Dollar Global Markets
Addis Ababa, August 22, 2025 (FMC) — The Office of the Prime Minister has launched five flagship hashtags to mobilize Ethiopians at home and abroad as digital ambassadors, promoting the country’s culture, heritage, and economic opportunities to help Ethiopia participate in the projected trillion-dollar global markets in tourism, fashion, hospitality, and cultural industries by 2030.
Billene Seyoum, Press Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed the initiative via her social media platforms, emphasizing that citizens play a central role in showcasing Ethiopia to the world. “An active citizen contributes by informing others and creating awareness about the wealth and opportunities Ethiopia offers,” she said.
The five hashtags are designed to guide citizen engagement and highlight key aspects of the country:
- #VisitEthiopia – Promotes Ethiopia’s landscapes, heritage, and culture, enhancing its profile as a unique African destination.
- #BuyEthiopian / #MadeInEthiopia – Highlights Ethiopian products, from traditional fashion, coffee, and handicrafts to aviation and agricultural exports, supporting the economy and fostering national brand pride.
- #MeetInEthiopia – Positions Ethiopia, particularly Addis Ababa, as a hub for international conferences, diplomacy, and continental cooperation.
- #EatInEthiopia – Showcases Ethiopia’s diverse traditional cuisine, promotes culinary tourism, and raises global awareness of the country’s culinary heritage.
- #InvestInEthiopia – Highlights investment opportunities across agriculture, energy, manufacturing, tourism, and technology sectors.
Ms. Billene underscored that government strategy alone cannot fully position Ethiopia in these markets, and that active citizen participation is essential. By promoting the country and its opportunities, Ethiopians can help secure Ethiopia’s place in the global economy.
