Utopia Technology Unveils Electric Taxi App and Green Mobility Initiative

Addis Ababa, August 28, 2025 (FMC) — Utopia Technology has launched its new electric metered taxi service, Utopia E-Taxi, as part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting environmentally friendly transport solutions and reducing Ethiopia’s dependence on imported fuel.

Speaking at the handover of electric vehicles, Utopia Technology Founder and CEO Adonik Worku said the program falls under the company’s “Utopia Green Mobility Initiative,” which combines sustainable transportation with digital innovation. The initiative encompasses projects such as Utopia Automotive, Utopia E-Taxi, Utopia Green Fund, and Utopia Electric Vehicle Charging Center.

Mr. Adonik emphasized that the initiative will not only save foreign currency spent on fuel imports but also create jobs and help address Addis Ababa’s persistent transportation shortages.

Government officials present at the launch welcomed the development. Head of Innovation Development at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Selamyihun Adefers, said Utopia Technology’s efforts in introducing new technologies are “encouraging and aligned with the country’s innovation agenda.” Similarly, Alamrew Getu, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Transport and Logistics, noted that the technology will play a significant role in advancing Ethiopia’s green digital economy strategy.

The company confirmed that preparations are complete for the rollout of the Utopia E-Taxi service, which has been in development for the past five years. The service will operate through a fully secure digital application designed to ensure transparency and reliability. Officials expressed confidence that the system will ease transportation challenges in the capital.

In a related development, Utopia Technology also held a digital car-lot drawing ceremony for customers who have been saving toward vehicle purchases through the Utopia Green Fund over the past four months.
