DPM Temesgen: GERD sparks dev’t momentum in Southwest Ethiopia People’s Region

Addis Ababa, September 19, 2025 (FMC) – Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has said that Southwest Ethiopia People’s Region, blessed with abundant natural resources and rich in spices, will gain significant development momentum from the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

In a message shared on his social media channels regarding today’s mass celebrations across the region marking the dam’s completion, Temesgen described the GERD as “a remarkable development achievement that has made the people the main participants and beneficiaries.”

He noted that the celebrations renew the spirit of determination and highlight the collective effort required to achieve Ethiopia’s prosperity goals. Temesgen expressed confidence that the people of Southwest Ethiopia will continue to achieve major development milestones by harnessing the region’s natural potential, just as the GERD succeeded through the joint efforts of the government and citizens.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the completion of the Renaissance Dam serves as a source of inspiration, demonstrating how cooperation between the people and government can transform Ethiopia’s development trajectory.
