Foreign Visitors Laud Ethiopia’s Rich Heritage and Scenic Treasures
Addis Ababa, September 30, 2025 (FMC) — Foreign visitors who recently toured different parts of Ethiopia have voiced profound admiration for the nation’s unique fusion of history, culture, and natural wonders.
The tourists described Ethiopia as one of Africa’s most compelling and authentic destinations, praising its wealth of both tangible and intangible heritage.
They highlighted internationally acclaimed sites such as the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, the Aksum Obelisks, Harar Jugol, and the Simien Mountains National Park — all recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites. They further noted that additional cultural and natural landmarks are under review for international recognition, which would further elevate the country’s global tourism appeal.
Ethiopia continues to attract over one million foreign visitors annually, drawn by its historical landmarks, vibrant cultural traditions, and breathtaking landscapes.
Among the travelers was Marcia Darm, an American tourist returning to Ethiopia for the second time. Recalling her earlier visit, she said, “My first trip was during the Epiphany at the Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches. I also traveled to the Omo Valley, where I experienced the people’s unique lifestyle, culture, and values. The hospitality and richness I encountered inspired me to return.”
On her latest journey, she explored Lalibela, Hora, and the Omo Valley. “We saw an extraordinary combination of historical monuments, religious sites, and cultural traditions. Ethiopia’s heritage is so rich and exciting, it is truly fascinating,” she remarked.
Nick Dean, a tourist from Australia who spent eight days in the country, described his stay in the Omo Valley as unforgettable. “It was incredible to see the way of life, culture, and traditions of the local communities. Ethiopian culture is fascinating, and the people are warm, friendly, and cooperative,” he said. He added that his group stayed in different lodges to connect more deeply with local life, visiting several tribes, witnessing traditional ceremonies, and learning about ancient customs.
Similarly, Spanish visitor Pablo Weeden said his brief two-day trip left a lasting impression. “Even in a short time, I experienced so many cultural, historical, and natural attractions. Ethiopia has so much to offer — it is captivating, refreshing, and deeply satisfying,” he noted.
The visitors also praised Addis Ababa’s cultural landmarks, particularly the National Museum of Ethiopia, which houses world-renowned archaeological treasures including the fossilized remains of *Lucy* (Australopithecus afarensis).
For Worknesh Zewde, an Ethiopian-born visitor now residing in the United States, returning carried special meaning. “Every time I come back, I feel something new. The social ties, mutual respect, and care I grew up with always bring back fond memories,” she shared.
According to the tourists, Ethiopia stands out as a destination with immense and unmatched tourism potential, offering an exceptional combination of ancient history, living cultural traditions, and breathtaking natural landscapes. For travelers seeking authenticity, they said, Ethiopia continues to inspire, captivate, and leave an enduring impression.
