Joint session of Ethiopia’s two houses to open 2025/26 fiscal year on Monday

Addis Ababa, October 3, 2025 (FMC) — The 6th House of People’s Representatives (HoPR) and the House of Federation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia will convene their joint opening session for the 2025/26 fiscal year (2018 E.C.) on Monday, October 6, 2025.

In line with the Ethiopian parliamentary calendar, each annual sittings of the parliament runs from the last Monday of September until June 30. With the conclusion of the 4th year tenure of the 6th HoPR, the 5th year tenure will officially begin next week.

President Taye Atske-Selassie will preside over the opening, formally declaring the commencement of the new parliamentary year. During the session, the President will also present the federal government’s annual plan, outlining priorities and directions for the year ahead.
