Ethiopian Runners Dominate Road Races Worldwide Over the Weekend

Addis Ababa, October 6, 2025 (F,C) — Ethiopian athletes continued to make headlines this past weekend with a series of impressive victories in international road races across the world.

In Romania, Ethiopia’s Khairi Bejiga and Medina Eisa won the men’s and women’s 10-kilometer races at the 2025 tRUNsylvania 10K, posting times of 26:54 and 30:28, respectively.

Ethiopia’s success extended to half marathon events as well. In Albacete, Spain, Hagos Eyob claimed first place in the men’s half marathon with a time of 1:00:42, while Kiros Muaz led the women’s race to victory in 1:09:09, both improving the course records. In Italy, Abebanesh Tesfay won the Trento Half Marathon in 1:11:53.

In the Cardiff Half Marathon, Yismaew Dilu made headlines by winning the men’s race in 59:23, breaking the local record, while compatriot Fikadu Licha finished third. In the women’s race, Alem Nigus finished second and Wudnesh Alemu claimed third.

Ethiopian runners also excelled in the marathon distance, with Fantu Shugi winning the Generali Cologne Marathon in 2:29:12.

The weekend’s results reinforced Ethiopia’s enduring dominance in long-distance running, with athletes excelling across a variety of distances and events on multiple continents.
