Ethiopia Elected to UNESCO Executive Board
Addis Ababa, November 7, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia has been elected as a member of the UNESCO Executive Board during the 43rd UNESCO General Conference, currently taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The Executive Board is one of UNESCO’s three constitutional organs, alongside the General Conference and the Secretariat, and is elected by member states at the General Conference. Operating under the authority of the General Conference, the Board reviews UNESCO’s work program and budget proposals submitted by the Director-General and forwards them with recommendations for approval.
Ethiopia’s election to the Board provides an opportunity to advance the country’s national interests, as well as those of Africa, on multilateral platforms in line with UNESCO’s mission and objectives.
The Board comprises 58 member countries, each serving a four-year term. Ethiopia will work in coordination and solidarity with other Board members toward shared goals throughout its tenure, which extends until 2029.
