Ethiopia Tops GEW 2025 Global Leaderboard With Highest Recorded Activities

Addis Ababa, November 16, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia has been ranked first globally in the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2025 activity leaderboard, recording 4,429 officially registered entrepreneurship events, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN).

This places Ethiopia ahead of Brazil (4,057 events) and Jordan (1,515 events), positioning the country at the top of GEN’s international ranking of countries most active during GEW.

The data is based on events officially registered through the GEN digital platform, which tracks global participation and engagement. GEN notes that the leaderboard reflects only submitted and verified events, and may not include all activities conducted offline or without registration.

Speaking to Fana Digital, Emebet Techane, Director of Communication and Partnerships at the Ethiopian Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EEDI), said the achievement demonstrates Ethiopia’s rapidly growing entrepreneurial ecosystem, supported through multi-stakeholder mobilization across regions, institutions, and sectors. She recalled that Ethiopia ranked second in Africa and eighth globally during last year’s GEW.

Emebet noted that coordinated activities — including training programs, conferences, policy dialogues, market-linkage forums, and experience-sharing sessions — significantly contributed to the registered results. She attributed the milestone to collective action led by EEDI, regional partners, universities, innovation hubs, private-sector actors, and civil-society organizations.

She urged all businesses, hubs, and institutions hosting entrepreneurship-related activities to continue registering their programs to maintain Ethiopia’s leadership position and unlock further opportunities for investment attraction, global recognition, and continental collaboration.

The official national launch of GEW Ethiopia 2025 is scheduled for November 17, 2025, with participation from senior government officials, business leaders, development partners, and regional ecosystem stakeholders under this year’s theme “Let’s Build Together.”
