PM Abiy Ahmed holds talks with French President and German Chancellor in Johannesburg
Addis Ababa, November 22, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed advanced Ethiopia’s diplomatic and economic interests through separate high-level discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.

The Prime Minister posted on social media that his meeting with President Macron was “a productive catch-up,” underlining the continued strengthening of Ethiopia–France relations through sustained engagement.

In his discussion with Chancellor Merz, PM Abiy exchanged views on key areas of mutual interest and highlighted the leaders’ shared intention to explore ways to deepen Ethiopia–Germany cooperation.
The G20 Leaders’ Summit opened today in Johannesburg, where PM Abiy delivered a speech emphasizing sustainable development, economic growth, and regional cooperation.
In addition to his meetings with France and Germany, the Prime Minister held several other bilateral engagements with leaders of various countries and multilateral organizations.
