PM Abiy Emphasizes Electricity and Internet as Pillars for Achieving Digital Ethiopia 2030 Goals

Addis Ababa, December 21, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted electricity and internet connectivity as the two fundamental enablers for achieving the objectives of the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy.

The strategy’s Digital Ethiopia 2025 review and the official launch of Digital Ethiopia 2030 took place yesterday at the Addis International Convention Center, where PM Abiy presided over the event. The launch brought together senior government officials, federal and regional leaders, and key stakeholders, setting the stage for the country’s next phase of digital transformation.

In his message, PM Abiy described electricity as the lifeblood of digital technology, noting that all technological devices and systems depend on reliable power. He called for the expansion of electricity access through all possible means to support the nation’s digital ambitions.

He further emphasized that internet connectivity is equally critical, pointing out that while many cities have already benefited, it must be made universally accessible across the country within the next five years.

The Prime Minister urged stakeholders to work with the belief that full connectivity is achievable, stressing the importance of creating equal digital opportunities for all citizens as Ethiopia advances toward its 2030 digital vision.
