Fourteen New Industries in Debre Birhan City Generate Over 36,000 Jobs

Addis Ababa, December 21, 2025 (FMC) — Fourteen newly established industries in Debre Birhan City, Amhara Regional State, have officially begun operations, creating employment opportunities for more than 36,000 citizens, marking a major milestone in the city’s industrial expansion.

The Industrial Development Council is currently visiting these industries and their surrounding areas to assess progress and ongoing operations.

The high-level delegation includes Ambassador Girma Birru, Chairman of the National Manufacturing Industry Council; Addisu Arega, Minister of Agriculture; Melaku Alebel, Minister of Industry; Aynalem Niguse, Minister of Revenue; and Debele Kabeta, Commissioner of the Customs Commission.

According to Birhan Gebrehiwot, Head of the Debre Birhan City Industry Investment Department, “These newly operational industries have created jobs for over 36,000 citizens,” reflecting the city’s growing role in Ethiopia’s industrial and economic development.

Although the city initially targeted eighteen industries during the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, fourteen of them have successfully commenced production, demonstrating significant progress in investment implementation and industrial growth.

The council’s inspection tour began at Nixon Pulp Factory and Baja Ceramic Factory in Bulga town administration. In the coming days, the delegation will continue to visit agro-industries, car assembly plants, and other manufacturing units, highlighting the city’s emerging industrial landscape.

The visit follows similar inspections conducted last Friday in Bahir Dar City, where Ambassador Girma Birru and council members evaluated several industries to further strengthen Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector.
