Bus Accident in Guatemala Kills at Least 15, Injures 19

Addis Ababa, December 27, 2025 (FMC) — At least 15 people were killed and 19 others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine along the Inter-American Highway in western Guatemala, Reuters reported, citing local authorities.

The accident occurred in the Sololá Department, between kilometres 172 and 174 of the highway, an area known for reduced visibility due to frequent fog, according to the Guatemalan fire department.

Firefighters said the victims included 11 men, three women and one minor. Emergency responders transported at least 19 injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Images released by the fire department showed rescue teams working at the scene amid the wreckage as efforts continued to recover victims and assist survivors.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash, and investigations were ongoing as emergency services continued operations in the area, Reuters reported.
