Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone Boosts Trade Efficiency and Investor Confidence – IPDC Chief

Addis Ababa, December 30, 2025 (FMC) – The Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone is already demonstrating promising results in enhancing Ethiopia’s trade and logistics system, Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) CEO Dr. Fisseha Yitagesu said.

Dr. Fisseha emphasized that the zone must collaborate closely with stakeholders to strengthen its role in driving Ethiopia’s economic growth.

The corporation is currently hosting a consultation forum with stakeholders to promote transparency in the zone’s future activities and encourage broad investor participation.

Although the Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone has not yet been fully operational for a year, Dr. Fisseha highlighted its early impact on streamlining the country’s trade and logistics processes. He added that the zone aims to facilitate nearly four billion dollars’ worth of goods over the next five years.

He further urged government institutions and the private sector to work hand in hand to maximize the zone’s contribution to Ethiopia’s economic prosperity. He also called on investors who have obtained work permits to commence operations without delay.

As Ethiopia’s first free trade zone, the Dire Dawa facility represents a major initiative to integrate the country more fully into the global trading system.

The zone is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing logistics costs, attracting foreign investment, and generating employment opportunities, officials noted.
