Prime Minister Calls for Strengthened Environmental Protection Efforts Ahead of Rainy Season

Addis Ababa, January 13, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the urgent need to reinforce Ethiopia’s environmental protection system, warning that the continued loss of fertile soil poses a serious threat to national development and is extremely difficult to restore once depleted.

In a message shared on his social media page, Premier Abiy noted that collaborative environmental conservation activities underway between communities and government institutions are showing encouraging momentum as the country approaches the rainy season.

The Prime Minister underscored that developing and safeguarding natural resources must be a shared national responsibility, calling on citizens to actively participate in environmental rehabilitation initiatives. He urged the public to unite in practical efforts that protect land, enhance productivity, and contribute to the nation’s long-term resilience.

The Prime Minister reiterated that collective action, commitment to land restoration, and sustained environmental stewardship are essential to building a stronger, greener, and more prosperous Ethiopia.
