Ethiopia Foils Over 27,000 Cyberattacks in First Half of 2025/26 Fiscal Year
Addis Ababa, February 8, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Information Network Security Administration (INSA) announced that it successfully thwarted more than 99 percent of attempted cyberattacks during the first six months of the 2025/26 Ethiopian fiscal year, underscoring the country’s strengthening cyber defense capabilities.
According to the Administration, a total of 27,773 cyberattacks were launched against national digital infrastructure during the reporting period, of which 27,505—representing 99.03 percent—were effectively neutralized.
The disclosure was made during INSA’s mid-year performance review for the 2018 ፀE.C. (2025/26) Ethiopian fiscal year.
Speaking at the review, INSA Director General Ms. Tigist Hamid said the institution is continuously upgrading its defense systems in response to the evolving nature and complexity of cyber threats. She noted that sustained efforts are underway to enhance technological infrastructure to enable early detection, rapid response, and effective mitigation of cybersecurity risks.
Ms. Tigist further stated that key initiatives underpinning the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy are being actively implemented, with government institutions increasingly equipped with digital technologies to improve efficiency and service delivery.
As part of these efforts, she cited the introduction of electronic invoicing systems at the Ministry of Revenue, the deployment of body cameras by the Addis Ababa Revenue Authority, and the ongoing development of integrated human resource and document management systems within the Federal Police.
On digital forensics, INSA reported that it has responded to 245 out of 253 investigation requests submitted to the Administration during the review period, reflecting enhanced institutional capacity in supporting cybercrime investigations.
