Ethiopian Airlines Posts $4.4 Billion Revenue in First Half of 2025/26 Fiscal Year

Addis Ababa, February 10, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Airlines Group has reported a revenue of $4.4 billion during the first six months of the 2025/26 fiscal year, exceeding its target by 2%, the airline announced today.

Speaking at a press briefing with local and international media, CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew stated that the airline has effectively implemented its planned activities for the current fiscal year, building on its growth-oriented strategies of recent years.

Highlighting the airline’s expansion, Mr. Mesfin announced the launch of flights to Porto (Portugal), Hanoi (Vietnam), and Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) during the first half of the fiscal year, bringing Ethiopian Airlines’ total international destinations to 145. He further noted that the airline has increased flight frequencies across both international and domestic routes.

On domestic operations, Mr. Mesfin said Ethiopian Airlines now serves 23 local destinations, including Yabelo Airport, which commenced operations at the start of the current fiscal year.

The airline also strengthened its fleet, taking delivery of seven new aircraft in the first six months, bringing the total number of aircraft directly operated by the airline to 147, while 170 aircraft are in service when including partner airlines managed across Africa. Plans are underway to further expand the fleet with additional aircraft.

Passenger traffic remained robust, with 10.64 million passengers transported, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. In cargo operations, the airline carried 451,000 tons of cargo, surpassing its half-year target by 4%.

Mr. Mesfin reported that the airline’s overall performance reflects a significant increase from the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

He highlighted ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects, including the $12.5 billion Bishoftu Airport mega project, with its first phase scheduled for timely completion following the recent foundation stone ceremony. Construction of the airline’s new headquarters has reached 42% completion, while work is underway on several new domestic airports, with three expected to be operational by April.

Acknowledging the challenges faced in the first half of the year, Mr. Mesfin cited aircraft shortages, volatile international security conditions, and climate change impacts as key hurdles. Despite these challenges, Ethiopian Airlines has maintained its trajectory of growth and service excellence.

Reflecting its achievements, the CEO recalled that the airline has received multiple accolades from local and international entities for its service performance during the first half of the fiscal year.
