Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia Arrive in Addis Ababa for 39th AU Summit
Addis Ababa, February 13, 2026 (FMC) – Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia arrived in Addis Ababa this afternoon to participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
Upon arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, President Mohamud was warmly received by Ethiopia’s Minister of Revenues, Aynalem Negussie, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye. President Hichilema was welcomed by Minister of Mining, Habtamu Tegegn, alongside Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.
The 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government is being held in Addis Ababa this week under the theme “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
The summit brings together African leaders to discuss key continental priorities, including water security, peace and security, economic integration, and sustainable development. Other African leaders are also in the Ethiopian capital for the summit, alongside the second Italy–Africa Summit taking place on the margins of the gathering.
