Addis Ababa Mayor shares food items with low-income residents ahead of Eid al-Fitr

Addis Ababa, March 18, 2026 (FMC) — The Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration, Adanech Abiebie, has shared food items with more than 100,000 low-income residents across the capital ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The initiative prioritizes vulnerable groups, including low-income families, people with disabilities, and residents facing economic hardship. The distribution covered all sub-cities and woredas, ensuring wide-reaching support throughout Addis Ababa, the Mayor said in a social media post this morning.

During the month of Ramadan, the city also organized Iftar dinner programs for roughly 27,000 individuals at 28 reception centers, enabling low-income residents to observe the holy month without food-related difficulties.

“Sharing food with the community reflects our commitment to the residents of Addis Ababa and reinforces the values of solidarity, brotherhood, and mutual support,” Mayor Adanech said.

She extended her gratitude to youth volunteers who assisted in the distribution and to investors who contributed to the initiative.
