“Addis Ababa Embodies Our Bold Ambition for Inclusive and Forward-Looking Urbanisation,” PM Abiy Ahmed
Addis Ababa, March 31, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that Addis Ababa represents Ethiopia’s bold vision for inclusive and forward-looking urbanisation, serving not only as the nation’s capital but also as a gateway to the country’s future.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister described the city as the “beating heart of a rapidly transforming nation” and emphasized that the government is building “not only for today, but for generations to come” by expanding modern infrastructure, advancing smart city solutions, creating inclusive housing, and promoting sustainable growth. He added that cities across Ethiopia are being developed to “empower people, unlock potential, and secure lasting prosperity.”
PM Abiy Ahmed highlighted Ethiopia’s combination of progress and heritage, noting that it is “a nation where progress and heritage stand side by side, where ancient civilizations inspire modern achievement, and where investors discover vast, untapped opportunity across diverse sectors and regions.”
He further underscored Addis Ababa’s role as a continental and global hub. According to the Prime Minister, “from the streets of Addis Ababa to the farthest reaches of our country, Ethiopia stands ready, resilient, dynamic, and open for business. As the diplomatic capital of Africa, Addis Ababa connects the world to a rising continent. It positions Ethiopia as a strategic gateway to African markets and a hub for global partnership. Yet Ethiopia offers more than opportunity. It offers discovery.”
Concluding his message, PM Abiy invited engagement with Ethiopia, encouraging stakeholders: “The future is being built here. Invest in Ethiopia. Explore Ethiopia. Grow with Ethiopia.”
This week marks eight years since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power. Under his leadership, Ethiopia has achieved a significant leap in urbanization, infrastructure development, and modernization across its cities, with Addis Ababa leading the nation’s transformation and exemplifying the government’s vision for sustainable, inclusive growth.
