Ethiopia and China deepen dev’t cooperation with renewed focus on strategic sectors

Addis Ababa, April 2, 2026 (FMC) – An Ethiopian delegation led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide has held high-level consultations with Liu Junfeng, Vice Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, aimed at further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and China.

The discussions centered on advancing bilateral cooperation in line with Ethiopia’s development priorities.

The Ethiopian side highlighted ongoing economic reforms and its broader development agenda, underscoring the importance of sustained collaboration to drive sustainable growth and structural transformation.

Vice Chairman Liu reaffirmed China’s continued commitment to supporting Ethiopia through enhanced cooperation mechanisms, including concessional financing, technical assistance, and capacity-building support.

Both sides also reviewed the progress of ongoing initiatives and explored opportunities to expand collaboration across key sectors, notably railway infrastructure, agriculture, digital development, industry, and health.

The consultations concluded with a shared commitment to deepen institutional engagement and maintain close coordination, with the aim of translating mutual priorities into tangible outcomes and further advancing the comprehensive Ethiopia–China partnership.
