Fayda Digital ID Enrollment Tops 40.3 Million as Ethiopia Accelerates Digital Transformation

Addis Ababa, April 4, 2026 (FMC) — Enrollment in Ethiopia’s National Digital ID system, Fayda, has exceeded 40.37 million, marking a significant milestone in the country’s drive toward a fully integrated digital ecosystem, according to the program’s Public Relations Directorate.

Speaking to Fana Digital, Public Relations Director of the National ID Program, Saminas Seifu, described Fayda as a foundational pillar in realizing Ethiopia’s digital transformation ambitions, underscoring its central role in building a modern, inclusive, and secure digital infrastructure.

He noted that registration operations are being progressively scaled up and streamlined across the country, expanding accessibility and ensuring wider citizen inclusion in the system.

Saminas further emphasized that Fayda is increasingly underpinning service delivery across key sectors by enhancing efficiency, improving accessibility, and enabling seamless verification processes.

Since the rollout of the initiative, over 40.37 million people have been successfully registered, reflecting both the program’s rapid expansion and growing public uptake.

He also highlighted the system’s critical role in strengthening safeguards against fraud—particularly within the financial sector—while facilitating the integration of advanced digital technologies into service provision.

Reiterating the program’s next phase, Saminas called on citizens to link their bank accounts and telebirr wallets with their Fayda ID before the stipulated deadline, stressing that such integration is essential for secure, efficient, and future-ready digital service delivery.
