Addis Ababa, April 30, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Information Network Security Administration (INSA) has announced that more than 50,000 cyberattacks were foiled over the past nine months of the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Director General of INSA, Ms. Tigst Hamid, said during the agency’s nine-month performance evaluation meeting that the institution is effectively fulfilling its mandate of safeguarding digital sovereignty through the prevention of cyber threats.
She noted that the achievement is significant for the implementation of the “Digital Ethiopia 2030” strategic vision, the strengthening of national security, and the enhancement of Ethiopia’s regional and global role in the cybersecurity sector.
It was also reported that 99 percent of cyberattacks targeting critical national infrastructure and institutions during the reporting period were successfully thwarted through continuous 24-hour monitoring and advanced defensive capabilities.
The evaluation forum further highlighted improvements in the speed and efficiency of cyber defense operations, supported by strengthened capacities in detecting, preventing, and responding to cyber threats.
It was also indicated that efforts to advance Ethiopia’s digital transformation through self-reliance are ongoing, with continued development of indigenous technological products and solutions, as well as their deployment across various institutions to reduce foreign dependence.
