Addis Ababa, Baku Elevate Cooperation with Sister City Agreement
Addis Ababa, May 19, 2026 (FMC) — The capitals of Ethiopia and Azerbaijan, Addis Ababa and Baku, have formalized a sister city partnership aimed at advancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening people-to-people relations.
The agreement is expected to serve as a framework for deeper engagement between the two cities, with a focus on expanding cultural and historical exchanges while promoting collaboration in key urban development sectors.
Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie said the partnership will open new avenues of cooperation in areas including tourism development, urban transformation, digitalization of public services, housing, and sports tourism, according to her social media statement.
The agreement comes as Mayor Adanech Abiebie participates in the World Urban Forum 2026 currently underway in Baku, where global urban leaders are convening to discuss sustainable city development.
