🇪🇹 President Taye Commends Ethiopian Federal Police for Rising Regional and Continental Standing

Addis Ababa, May 24, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Taye Atske-Selassie has commended the Ethiopian Federal Police for its growing regional and continental standing, noting that the institution has strengthened its profile through professionalism, discipline, and sustained reform efforts.

Speaking at the 2026 graduation ceremony of the Ethiopian Police University on Saturday, the President stated that the Federal Police has increasingly gained recognition beyond national borders through its participation in international peacekeeping and security operations.

He noted that these engagements have contributed significantly to the institution’s rising reputation across the region and continent, reflecting ongoing transformation efforts undertaken over recent years.

The President further indicated that the Ethiopian Federal Police is now equipped with modern manpower, advanced technology, and updated operational systems, describing these capabilities as comparable to those of a limited number of countries globally. He stressed that such advancements have strengthened the institution’s ability to effectively carry out its national security responsibilities.

He also highlighted the role of the police in preventing and countering threats posed by anti-peace forces, terrorist groups, and other actors targeting national stability and development.

Addressing graduating officers, the President stated that they are entering the first phase of their professional service after completing rigorous academic and physical training. He congratulated them on their achievement and underscored the importance of serving the nation with discipline, loyalty, and commitment in their future duties.

He added that the graduates have completed a demanding training process and are now expected to carry the responsibility of safeguarding national peace and security with dedication and professionalism.

The Commissioner General of the Demelash Gebremichael said the occasion coincides with the 117th anniversary of the Ethiopian Police and preparations for the upcoming seventh national elections.

He stated that comprehensive preparations for the election have been completed, including assessments based on previous experiences, training programs, and deployment of necessary equipment and technology. He called on the public, political parties, and their supporters to cooperate with security institutions to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

He further described the graduation as a reflection of the Federal Police’s ongoing reform process, noting that the institution has undergone a strategic transformation aimed at building a modern, independent, and service-oriented force.

The President of the Ethiopian Police University, Mulugeta Tamrat, stated that the university is fulfilling its national mandate by producing graduates equipped with knowledge, professional skills, ethical standards, and modern technological competence to serve the country’s policing system.
