Security Agencies Confirm Full Preparedness to Ensure Peaceful Conduct of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election

Addis Ababa, May 31, 2026 (FMC) — Security agencies have confirmed full preparedness to ensure the peaceful, safe, and orderly conduct of Ethiopia’s 7th general election, as the country enters the final hours before nationwide voting.

The Addis Ababa Police Commission stated that all necessary operational and security arrangements have been completed for both the election day and the post-election period, following coordinated planning conducted with relevant security and administrative institutions.

Authorities indicated that the preparations are designed to ensure public safety, safeguard electoral activities, and maintain stability throughout the voting process across the capital and surrounding areas.

Officials noted that joint coordination mechanisms among security agencies were established in advance of the election period, enabling integrated planning and response structures to support peaceful electoral conduct.

The Police Commission emphasized that attention has been given to preventing and managing any potential disruptions, while ensuring that citizens are able to exercise their democratic rights in a secure environment.

Members of the public have also been encouraged to contribute to the peaceful conduct of the election by reporting any suspicious or security-related concerns through designated communication channels and toll-free hotlines made available for public use.

Authorities reiterated that maintaining peace and public order during the electoral process is a shared responsibility, calling on citizens to support ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring a calm and credible voting environment.

The 7th general election, scheduled for June 1, 2026, will be conducted nationwide with more than 54 million registered voters expected to participate.
