Deputy PM Temesgen Calls Green Legacy a Model of National Mobilization and Sustainability

Addis Ababa, June 22, 2026 (FMC) — Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh has described Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative as a powerful testament to what a nation can accomplish when its people come together with shared purpose, collective resolve, and the guiding spirit of Medemer.

In a social media statement, Temesgen said he, alongside staff from the Prime Minister’s Office, participated in a tree-planting campaign as part of the national initiative.

He noted that over the years, the Green Legacy Initiative has transformed once-barren mountains into green landscapes, revived dried springs, and restored lands that had long suffered from environmental degradation.

According to him, these achievements go beyond environmental restoration, representing a broader commitment to stewardship, sustainability, and the well-being of future generations.

Temesgen further stated that the initiative has generated significant economic opportunities, strengthened climate resilience, and enhanced Ethiopia’s standing on the global stage, contributing to the country’s successful bid to host COP32 and its engagement in the global climate agenda.

He emphasized that the achievements of the programme reflect the vision, dedication, and collective effort of both government and citizens, describing it as a source of national pride.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted this year’s national target of planting 8 billion seedlings, calling on Ethiopians to rise to the challenge by planting, nurturing, and protecting seedlings to secure a greener, more prosperous, and sustainable future.
