IGAD Congratulates Ethiopia on Successful Conduct of 7th General Elections
Addis Ababa, June 23, 2026 (FMC) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has congratulated the Government and people of Ethiopia on what it described as the successful conduct of the country’s 7th General Elections held on June 1, 2026.
In a statement issued Tuesday, IGAD also congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Prosperity Party on securing a majority in the elections, as announced by the National Election Board of Ethiopia on June 21.
The regional bloc commended the National Election Board of Ethiopia for its professionalism and dedication in administering the electoral process, while acknowledging the Ethiopian people for their peaceful participation, which it said contributed to the orderly conduct of the elections.
According to IGAD, the successful conduct of the polls reflects Ethiopia’s continued commitment to democratic governance and constitutional order.
The organization also expressed confidence in Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to promote national unity, strengthen inclusive dialogue, and advance peace, stability, and sustainable development.
IGAD further reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Government of Ethiopia in advancing regional cooperation, integration, peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Horn of Africa region.
