Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye Congratulates PM Abiy, Prosperity Party on Election Victory
Addis Ababa, June 24, 2026 (FMC) – Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye has congratulated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Prosperity Party on their victory in Ethiopia’s parliamentary elections.
In a message addressed to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Ndayishimiye extended what he described as warm fraternal congratulations to the Prime Minister and the Prosperity Party on their notable electoral victory.
The Burundian leader said the renewed electoral mandate reflects the confidence Ethiopians have placed in the country’s leadership and its development trajectory.
“This renewed democratic mandate reflects the trust and confidence of the people of Ethiopia in your leadership to guide the nation toward sustainable peace, stability, and economic growth,” he said.
Ndayishimiye also underscored Ethiopia’s significance to the continent, describing the country as central to Africa’s collective aspirations and future progress.
“A strong, unified, and prosperous Ethiopia remains pivotal to the advancement of our shared continental agenda,” he noted.
He further expressed his readiness to continue working closely with Ethiopia to strengthen regional integration, enhance democratic governance and advance African solutions to African problems.
Ndayishimiye conveyed the message on behalf of both the Republic of Burundi and the African Union, which he currently chairs.
Ethiopia’s 7th General Election was held on June 1, 2026, with the National Election Board of Ethiopia announcing the official results on June 21. The Prosperity Party won 438 of the 501 seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives, securing a parliamentary majority and retaining its mandate to form the federal government.
