Green Legacy Initiative Begins Delivering Gains in Honey Production as Forest Coverage Expands — PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, June 25, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has said that the country’s Green Legacy Initiative, beyond its foundational role in climate action, is now delivering real gains in the country’s honey production.

In a message shared on his social media platforms, the Prime Minister stated that as forests expand under the initiative, natural habitats and food sources that sustain bee populations are also increasing, contributing to improved honey harvests.

He noted that protecting the natural environment is directly linked with strengthening beekeeping outcomes, as ecosystem restoration supports the conditions required for bee survival and productivity.

The Prime Minister concluded his message with a call for continued participation in the initiative, stating: “Let us plant hope.”
