PM Abiy Commissions Entoto–Kebena Riverside Development Project in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, June 28, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today commissioned the Entoto–Kebena River and Riverside Development Project in Addis Ababa, describing it as a landmark initiative that will enhance flood resilience, improve urban livability, and advance the capital’s ambition to become a global tourism and economic hub.

According to the Prime Minister, the project spans 87.6 hectares and stretches 10.5 kilometers, integrating flood protection walls, modern bridges, expansive green spaces, and other modern urban infrastructure.

Abiy said the project is more than a major construction achievement, noting that it represents another step in Ethiopia’s strategic effort to transform Addis Ababa into a climate-resilient, highly livable city while boosting its appeal as a destination for tourism and investment.

The Prime Minister said the development supports the government’s long-term vision of making the capital a global tourism and economic hub while enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing transformative development initiatives, pledging to fulfill the public trust with loyalty, resilience, diligence, and sincerity while continuing efforts to improve citizens’ quality of life.
