Ethiopian Parliament Begins Year-End Session in Presence of PM Abiy Ahmed
Addis Ababa, July 7, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives has begun its 30th regular sitting of the fifth year of its tenure today in the presence of Prime Minister .
The session is focused on the federal government’s performance report for the 2018 E.C. (2025/26 fiscal year), with the Prime Minister set to present an assessment of the government’s annual plan implementation and respond to questions from members of parliament.
Lawmakers are expected to review government performance across major national areas, including economic management, political and institutional affairs, social development, peace and security, infrastructure development, and diplomatic engagements, while seeking clarifications on key policy matters and national priorities.
The sitting also includes deliberations on the draft federal budget for the 2019 E.C. (2026/27 fiscal year). The House is scheduled to consider the report and recommendations of the Standing Committee on Planning, Budget and Finance before proceeding with the approval of the budget proclamation.
The year-end session is being held as part of the House’s constitutional oversight responsibility to review executive performance and monitor the implementation of national plans and programs.
The sitting is being attended by invited guests, including ambassadors accredited to Ethiopia, representatives of international organizations, religious leaders, and leaders of legally registered political parties.
