Ethiopian Parliament Ratifies 2.34 Trillion Birr Federal Budget for 2026/27 Fiscal Year

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2026 (FMC) — The House of Peoples’ Representatives has ratified Ethiopia’s federal government budget for the 2026/27 fiscal year (2019 E.C.), approving a total allocation of 2.34 trillion birr.

The ratification was made during the House’s 30th regular session of the fifth year of its tenure, in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The Planning, Budget and Finance Affairs Standing Committee presented the budget report and draft resolution to the House following the review and scrutiny process conducted after the Council of Ministers endorsed the proposed budget and submitted it to Parliament.

Following deliberations, the House approved the budget by a majority vote, completing the legislative approval process for the country’s national financial plan for the coming fiscal year.

The approved budget amounts to 2.34 trillion birr, representing an increase of 411.6 billion birr, or 21.3 percent, compared with the budget approved for the 2018 E.C. fiscal year.

The ratified budget will serve as the government’s financial framework for implementing national priorities and development activities during the 2026/27 fiscal year.
