Addis Ababa, July 11, 2026 (FMC) β€” Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s biggest airline, has launched a new direct flight service to Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, opening new opportunities for tourism, trade, investment and stronger people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The inaugural flight is scheduled to depart from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on July 12, with the new route operating three times a week as part of Ethiopian Airlines’ continued efforts to expand connectivity across Africa and beyond.

The launch ceremony was attended by Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tassew, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hadera Abera, Mauritius Ambassador to Ethiopia Indrajit Bamboua and other invited guests.

Speaking at the event, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tassew said the new route reflects the airline’s strategic plan to expand connectivity across Africa and strengthen economic cooperation.

He said Mauritius is Ethiopian Airlines’ 41st destination in Africa, adding that the service will contribute to broader economic ties and support the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

For his part, Ambassador Hadera said the new air link demonstrates the commitment of Ethiopia and Mauritius to advancing African integration by creating opportunities in trade, tourism, investment and cultural exchange.

He noted that the new service will further strengthen diplomatic relations by facilitating travel between the two countries and enhancing connections to global destinations through Addis Ababa and Port Louis.

Meanwhile, Mauritius Ambassador to Ethiopia Indrajit Bamboua described the launch as a new chapter in bilateral relations, saying the route will enhance connectivity between Africa and the Indian Ocean region.

He added that the direct flight will provide opportunities for businesses from both countries to strengthen trade, establish partnerships and expand investment cooperation.

Ethiopian Airlines currently operates flights to 145 international destinations and continues to expand its African and global network.
