Deputy PM Says Empowering Youth Leaders Key to Ethiopia’s Sustainable Future

Addis Ababa, Aug. 1, 2026 (FMC) — Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh has underscored the importance of investing in youth leadership and innovation to accelerate Ethiopia’s sustainable development and realize the country’s long-term national vision.

Speaking at the opening of the 6th Annual Leadership Conference Diplomatic Simulation (LCC2026), held under the theme “Green Legacy for Sustainable Development in Agriculture and Green Innovation,” the Deputy Prime Minister said Ethiopia is committed to building a generation equipped with knowledge, inspired by creativity, and guided by strong leadership.

Temesgen stressed that Ethiopia’s progress depends on the strength of its people and the responsible stewardship of its natural resources. As the country advances efforts to build a resilient and inclusive economy, he said transforming agriculture through innovation, sustainability, and improved productivity remains a national priority.

He noted that these efforts are aimed at strengthening food self-sufficiency while safeguarding the country’s national dignity.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the conference has brought together young leaders from across Ethiopia to exchange ideas, establish partnerships, and develop practical solutions in areas including food sovereignty, climate resilience, and renewable energy.

He said the initiative is designed to prepare a new generation of innovators and global ambassadors capable of shaping Ethiopia’s future while contributing to global sustainable development.

Temesgen further emphasized that investing in young people is an investment in a more prosperous, resilient, and united Ethiopia, adding that the country’s Green Legacy Initiative is not only restoring the environment but also fostering the aspirations, talents, and leadership potential of the next generation.

He called for sustained collective efforts to advance a greener, more sustainable, and more prosperous Ethiopia.
