Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Reaches a Defining Moment as All Eight Agenda Groups Find Common Ground

Addis Ababa, August 13, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s National Dialogue reached a defining moment today, with all eight agenda groups reaching consensus on their recommendations after weeks of intensive deliberations on the core issues identified for the conference, the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission announced this afternoon.

The announcement marks the completion of the consensus-building stage across all eight agenda themes, following the latest agreements reached by the four groups that had remained in deliberation.

Four groups had previously reached consensus on Peacebuilding, Religious Issues, Corruption and Good Governance, and Government Structure and Political System.

Today, the remaining four groups also reached consensus on recommendations concerning Nation-Building, the Status of Federal Cities, Institution Building, Rule of Law and Human Rights, and Social and Economic Issues, according to the Commission.

The eight groups, each comprising 500 participants, have been deliberating separately on the core agenda themes identified for the National Dialogue, examining diverse perspectives and consolidating them into recommendations.

With all eight groups now having reached consensus, the National Dialogue has moved from the earlier stage of divergent views toward common positions across the full range of core national issues placed before the conference.

The achievement marks a defining stage in the National Dialogue as the recommendations emerging from all eight groups are brought together as part of the broader outcomes of the consultation process.
