Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Nears Completion as Diverse Views Converge on Recommendations

Addis Ababa, August 13, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s National Dialogue is nearing completion as diverse views expressed during the deliberations converge toward recommendations, Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission Hirut Gebre Sellasie said in a media briefing today.

Hirut said the process is progressing as planned, with most of the 500-member working groups that have been deliberating separately having reached agreement on most of the issues under consideration.

The groups are now finalizing their deliberations by consolidating their recommendations and signing the respective documents, she said.

A team has also been established to harmonize the recommendations prepared by the eight dialogue groups, according to the Deputy Chief Commissioner.

The team will summarize and consolidate the recommendations into a single, unified proposal, she said.

Hirut further said complaints submitted by individuals, groups and political parties are being reviewed in accordance with the Commission’s grievance-handling procedures, with decisions to be made accordingly.

The Commission will announce the outcome of the National Dialogue to the Ethiopian public in the next phase, she said.
