Ethiopia’s 4,000 Dialogue Participants to Take Up Harmonized Recommendations on Wednesday, Commission Announces

Addis Ababa, August 17, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s 4,000 National Dialogue participants are set to take up the harmonized recommendations of the conference’s eight working groups on Wednesday, following the completion of the ongoing process to reconcile and consolidate their outcomes.

Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission Hirut Gebre Sellassie said the harmonization of recommendations developed and agreed upon by the eight working groups is nearing completion.

Briefing on the current status of the National Dialogue Conference, Hirut said each group had selected 15 representatives to harmonize the recommendations compiled through their respective deliberations.

The representatives have been reviewing the recommendations from all eight groups to prevent contradictions and duplication and ensure that the proposals are presented in a coherent manner, she said.

They have also familiarized themselves with the recommendations developed by the other groups and are reconciling the ideas through discussion, according to the Deputy Chief Commissioner.

Hirut said the harmonization work is expected to be completed shortly, after which the consolidated recommendations will be presented back to all eight groups for review.

Input will be gathered from the groups today and tomorrow, with the final document to be prepared based on the feedback received.

The 4,000 participants are then expected to review and approve the recommendations on Wednesday, she said.

Hirut also confirmed that the Commission is reviewing complaints submitted concerning the National Dialogue process and will make decisions accordingly.
