Addis Ababa, September 7, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has extended Ethiopia’s condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the people of Tanzania following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the First Gentleman of the United Republic of Tanzania.
In a condolence message shared on his social media pages, Prime Minister Abiy said he had learned with profound sorrow of Hafidh Ameir Hassan’s passing and conveyed Ethiopia’s deepest sympathies to President Samia, her family and the Tanzanian people.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, I extend our deepest condolences to Her Excellency, her family, and the people of Tanzania,” the Prime Minister said.
He further expressed Ethiopia’s solidarity with the bereaved family and the people of Tanzania, saying the country’s thoughts and sympathies remain with them during the difficult time.
Hafidh Ameir Hassan died on Monday while receiving treatment in Zanzibar, according to Tanzanian authorities. Regional leaders, including African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, have also conveyed condolences to President Samia and the Tanzanian people.
