Ethiopia-Djibouti Petroleum Pipeline to Strengthen Energy Security, Transform Cross-Border Fuel Logistics – PM Office

Addis Ababa, September 24, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopia-Djibouti Petroleum Products Pipeline is set to strengthen Ethiopia’s energy security and transform cross-border fuel logistics by establishing a safe, reliable and efficient route for transporting petroleum products from Djibouti to Ethiopia, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.

The strategic cross-border infrastructure project is being implemented through a joint investment by Ethiopian Investment Holdings and the Dangote Group and extends about 120 kilometers from Damerjog in Djibouti to Dewele in Ethiopia.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the project will establish an integrated petroleum logistics system connecting marine receipt and coastal storage facilities at Damerjog with inland storage and distribution facilities at Dewele.

At the Damerjog terminal, refined petroleum products will be received and transferred to dedicated storage facilities before being transported through a multiproduct pipeline to Dewele for onward distribution across Ethiopia.

The integrated system is designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of petroleum-product transportation while strengthening Ethiopia’s trade links and the wider Ethiopia-Djibouti economic corridor.
