Ahmed Shide Unanimously Elected, Sworn In as Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives
Addis Ababa, October 5, 2026 (FMC) — Ahmed Shide has been unanimously elected and sworn in as Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives as the 7th parliamentary term gets underway.
Ahmed Shide, who most recently served as Minister of Transport and Logistics, assumes the speakership as the newly constituted House begins its work under the new parliamentary term.
His election and swearing-in took place during the inaugural proceedings of the House, marking a key institutional step in the opening of the new parliamentary term and the formal formation of Ethiopia’s new Medemer Government.
